On Wednesday January 8th I had my 38 week doctors appointment at 8:40 am. The doctor told me a was dilated to a 3 and she stripped my membranes. After my appointment I went to work. Around 10 am I started cramping and getting contractions. They were really mild and irregular but they continued throughout the day. At around 4:30 I called Matt to leave work a bit early because the contractions had gone to about 7 minutes apart and were getting more regular. We went home but then the contractions started slowing down. I was kind of bummed because I thought maybe they were going to stop because they were as far apart at 20 to 25 minutes. Around 11:00 pm the contractions had come back and were anywhere from 5 to 3 minutes apart. At 12:15 we decided we would go to the hospital. I called my mom to come stay with Milo and we arrived at the hospital at 1:00 AM on Wednesday January 9th. They set me up to the monitors to watch my contractions and listen to babies heart beat. They checked me right when we got there and I was now dilated to a 4. The nurse said they would let us stay for an hour and see how much I had progressed. After an hour I was only dilated to a 4+ which I guess was a little better. They still did not want to officially let us stay. The doctor decided to let us stay and watch us for one more hour. So after another full hour of contractions she checked me again and I was now dilated to a 5. So at about 3AM they officially admitted me to the hospital. At 3:30 AM they broke my water, which let me tell you is probably not the best feeling in the world but it helped to get the process going. From 3:30 to 4:30 I started getting some pretty painful contractions. At 4:30 AM I received the epidural. Finally some relief and I was able to get some rest. I had tested positive for Strep B so I had to do an IV drip of antibiotics. They told me they wanted to try and wait to deliver the baby till the antibiotic drip was gone. So I slept from about 5:00 to 7:00. They checked me at about 7:30 and I was dilated to a 9. Around 7:45 I could feel the pressure and new that the baby was close to making her grand entrance. They called the doctor in and she checked me and sure enough we were ready to push. I pushed 5 times for 11 minutes and our sweet baby girl was born at 8:21AM. Sloan Mae Polifka weighed 7lb. 10oz. and was 19 inches long.
The first thing we noticed was all her dark hair. She had a full head of hair. What a beautiful baby! She was a little angel her first day. She slept a LOT and ate well. That day was cold one. It snowed all day long. Lucky for us we got to watch it from the window of our hospital room and did not have to go out into it.
